Interior Enthusiast - Minimalism + Contemporary Style by Emma Sweeney

We are constantly trying to improve our content and starting today we want to share beautiful ideas from interior enthusiasts out there. Let's get started, here is our first interview with lovely Emma Sweeney.

What does your passion for interior come from?
I've always been interested in interiors and home decor. Even when I was a child I was running around tidying and sorting the house and even once offered to help my neighbour improve her house. I think your home is one of the most important places in your life. I believe that everything in your house should spark joy and that the way you design and furnish your house should keep this in mind. Beautiful interiors and homes give me joy. I just love it!

What is your current obsession? (related interior/home decor)
I've always love monochrome and minimalism. I adore Nordic or Danish design, the contemporary and minimal, the clean lines, beautiful wood, plants, crisp clean white walls. I love Swoon editions and Bo Concept for furniture. I also love Hay Design. I am visiting Copenhagen in a fortnight and cannot wait to pick up some cool Danish pieces.

Tell us your must have home decor items.
I believe a good bed and a good couch are worth spending a lot on. After all you use them every day. We splurged on our sofa from Sofas and Stuff in the UK. Its grey and modern design but doesn't sacrifice on comfort. Our kingsize bed is the same and we covered it in White Company bedding. As much as I believe a house should look beautiful it also has to be lived in. Don't scrimp on the large necessary items such as couches and beds. It's worth the investment. I'm also obsessed with candles! My boyfriend kills me when he see me buying more candles. My favourites are Jo Malone, Diptyque and Skandinavisk.

How would you describe your interior style?
Again, I am a lover of minimalism. One of my favourite books is Kinfolk Home. I don't think there's a house featured in that book that I don't class as perfect! I love contemporary design but again it also has to feel homely by adding the right amount of soft furnishings. So I would say minimalism, contemporary but also lived in.

Best home decor tips?
Take your time and do it right. Don't just go to Ikea and do it overnight. It's worth spending more on really beautiful unique pieces. After all it's your home, you don't want it to look like everyone else. It has to be special to you. Finally, less is more. Keep only what sparks joy.
